Predictive Models

In the same spirit as the walkthroughs, the predictive models do not include users in the evaluation of a system. Here experts are involved by using formulas to derive various measures of user performance. Predictive modelling techniques provide estimates of the efficiency of different systems for various kinds of tasks (Preece, Rogers, and Sharp 2002). A well-known predictive modelling technique is the GOMS model. The aim with this model is to model the knowledge and cognitive processes involved when users interact with systems. The term GOMS is an acronym meaning: Gaols, Operators, Methods, and Selection rules (Preece, Rogers, and Sharp 2002).
